Vaping boom leads to cigarette decline

NEW DATA reveals the e-cigarette business is alight across major cities in the UK; in the wake of a recent report from the Office of National Statistics that claims 56.7% of smokers across Great Britain made the decision to quit smoking traditional cigarettes in 2015 – the highest proportion of quitters recorded since 1974.

British online retailer Vapourlites.com decided to delve further to identify just how many cities have openly embraced the e-cigarette industry. In analysing data collated by counting the number of e-cigarette outlets within a 2-mile radius of each city, Vapourlites found the Scottish capital of Edinburgh to lead the way, with a total of 17 vape stores. London and Birmingham were not far behind, with 10 apiece. In fact, out of 68 cities analysed – just 13 were found to buck the trend.

Fittingly, it has been reported that Britons are switching from cigarettes to electronic alternatives faster than anyone else in Europe – with one person making the switch from traditional to electronic cigarettes every four minutes. The sheer level of supply and demand in big cities like Edinburgh, means that many people – varying in age, race and socio-economic status – can be catered to.

Ultimately, individuals living in cities where the e-cigarette business is booming are no longer limited and cigarettes cease to exist as the only option for those struggling with addiction. Vapourlites director, Charles Bloom adds:

“The emergence of vaping outlets in major cities is highly beneficial – not just to those in the business, but to everyone who is struggling with addiction. It is highly important to maintain choice: people should not feel confined in how they choose to cope with their addiction. Hopefully, the example set by leading cities like Edinburgh, London and Birmingham will encourage cities across the globe to follow suit.”
