While Samsung fans are excited about the Galaxy S8 unveiling on March 29 in New York, the company has apparently pushed back the phone’s launch to April 28th. Rumors had been swirling around for weeks that the Galaxy S8 would hit the stores on April 21. Noted tipster Evan Blass of VentureBeat has learned from inside sources “briefed on the company’s revised target” that Samsung has changed the launch plans. Evan Blass has a proven track record when it comes to smartphone rumors.
Samsung being extra careful
However, the change in the launch plans does not amount to a “delay,” considering Samsung never officially announced the April 21 plan. Blass did not mention any specific reason behind the longer wait period. It is safe to assume that the Korean electronics giant is being extra careful with the Galaxy S8 after the disastrous Galaxy Note 7 saga.
In the run up to Galaxy S8 launch, Samsung has come up with an 8-point battery testing program and other safety measures to ensure that every single device getting out of its manufacturing facilities is 100% safe. The company is also running ad campaigns highlighting its smartphone testing procedures to regain consumer faith. Samsung has also created a new global product quality improvement office.
Galaxy S8 pre-orders to start on April 10
Samsung has officially sent out invites for a March 29 media event in New York City where it would unveil the much-awaited Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The company is also expected to bring a new Gear VR headset compatible with the new smartphones. Recent rumors coming out of Korea claim that Samsung would start taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus on April 10th.
While the S8 is said to sport a 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, its bigger sibling would have a massive 6.2-inch screen. The US version of both phones would be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor. The Exynos 8895-powered version would be sold in other markets. The phones are rumored to feature 4GB RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, 12MP main camera, and an 8MP front snapper.
Galaxy S8 leaked again
Recent rumors claim that the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus would cost $950 and $1050, respectively. The devices would have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner next to the main camera, and a front-mounted iris scanner. A close up image of the phone leaked by SlashLeaks shows the on-screen home button and its incredibly thin top and bottom bezels. The phone will also have a dedicated button for AI assistant Bixby on the side.

According to a recent trademark filing by Samsung with the USPTO, the Galaxy S8’s edge-to-edge bezel-less display could be called “Infinity Display.” The trademark description mentioned that the phrase would be used on “mobile telephones.”
