This iPhone 8 Concept Has A Transparent Display

Updated on

The iPhone 8 appears to be one of the most exciting smartphones in recent years. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its iconic product, Apple is giving the phone a design makeover, besides introducing new features. While the real thing is still several months away, concept designers have come up with their unique ideas for the device. A new concept has given the upcoming iPhone a cool transparent display.

iPhone 8 with a transparent display: Is it even possible?

Designed by Georgy Pashkov, the concept video was uploaded to YouTube by Concepts iPhone. Pashkov’s concept has an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which is embedded in the display. Since the iPhone 8 is said to have an edge-to-edge OLED display with little or no bezels, there won’t be a physical home button. The home functionality and the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner are embedded in the display itself.

What’s even more interesting is the transparent display that allows you to look right through the iPhone 8. No smartphone vendor has ever attempted to add a transparent display. Pashkov imagines that the transparency can be achieved using optical sensors on the back of the device. It means the innards of the iPhone are not transparent. Instead, the sensors will do all the trick.

Tim Cook teases iPhone 8

Pashkov’s concept also includes a Piezoelectric speaker. The entire display panel acts as a speaker. The iPhone 8 is widely expected to bring a new design, but this concept takes the iPhone too far into the future. Apple is unlikely to release such a device at least for another few years. The iPhone 8 is rumored to feature a glass-sandwich design with metal frame, wireless charging, and IP68 waterproof rating.

At Apple’s quarterly earnings call, chief executive Tim Cook teased the upcoming iPhone. When asked whether the smartphone innovation was slowing, Cook said smartphones are “still in the early innings of the game.” He highlighted opportunities in home automation, health, CarPlay, and the enterprise areas. Cook also emphasized the power of Siri.

Is iPhone 8 overhyped?

According to a report from DigiTimes, Apple’s voice assistant Siri is going to get a major AI boost with the iPhone 8. The Cupertino company would use technology from Turi, a startup it acquired last year, to enhance the capabilities of Siri. Apple needs to maintain an edge as rivals such as Microsoft’s Cortana, Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung’s upcoming Bixby are catching up fast.

Apple fans are excited about the 10th anniversary iPhone. But Barclays analyst Mark Moskowitz recently said in a research note that the iPhone 8 was overhyped. The biggest highlight of the phone is going to be an edge-to-edge OLED display. Samsung already has high-end phones featuring OLED screens. Samsung and Google’s upcoming flagship phones are also said to have the same display technology.
