Instagram Now Testing A Feature To Allow You To Upload Multiple Photos In One Post

Updated on

Instagram might soon allow users to post multiple images at once as it is currently testing this change. The feature has been seen popping up on the latest version of the Instagram app on Android, reports Droid Life. As the feature is not available for all, it suggests the company is testing it and has rolled it out to a small number of users.

Instagram tests Carousel-like feature

Instagram users who wish to share more than one image from a particular event but have to post them separately will welcome the new feature. As of now, there have been no comments from Instagram on it, suggesting the feature roll-out for more users will not take much time.

Instagram users might have noticed within ads that such image albums — known officially as “carousels” — are in use for businesses (the feature was launched in 2015 for businesses). Users are required to long-press a photo to add it to a carousel album, after which a prompt instructs them to select up to 10 images or videos. They will be able to either apply a single filter to all the images or use different effects before posting everything in a single gallery, notes The Verge.

All individual photos in a post will be available to an individual’s followers and other Instagram users for liking.

“From your followers’ perspective, they will see the album and can then slide through the various shots, liking photos as they go,” says Droid Life.

The feature is buggy for now and throws up an error message when someone actually tries to publish albums.

How it is better than collages

The company’s Layout app can be used to create collages, and there is a host of third-party apps that serve a similar purpose. However, the images in a collage are very small to see individually, especially when viewed on phone screens, notes TNW.

It will be interesting to see how the company implements it. TNW predicts that the company will impose limits on the maximum number of images a user can post, as advertisers too have an upper limit of five images. It’s hard to believe that Instagram will be able to handle an album of 200 photos like Facebook.

Once this feature is rolled out publicly, Instagram might begin to work on features like a native regram function and scheduled posts, notes The Verge. Lately, the company has appeared more focused on copying Snapchat and live video.
