Marlin Equity Partners has acquired Medvind Informationsteknik, a Swedish provider of workforce management software, and merged it with Bluegarden, another developer of payroll and HR software operating in Scandinavia. The deal was conducted by the firm’s London office, but Marlin’s main base of operations is more than 5,000 miles away on the sunny shore of the Pacific, in Hermosa Beach, CA.
While cities like New York, Boston and Chicago are largely home to the industry’s old guard, plenty of private equity firms are headquartered in California—many of them tech-focused investors eager for proximity to Silicon Valley. In all, 237 PE investors based in the state have completed an investment in the past three years, according to the PitchBook Platform, with more than 20% of those deals falling into the IT sector.
