Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg sets a challenge every year and has been fulfilling them as well. His challenge for this year is to travel a lot, he said on Tuesday. This young and talented entrepreneur plans to visit roughly 30 states in 2017.

Zuckerberg takes up these personal challenges every year. Last year, Zuckerberg built a crude version of Amazon’s popular voice-controlled digital assistant Alexa for his home. It follows commands and performs tasks like switching on house lights and playing music. In the past few years, his other challenges were to eat meat from animals that he personally killed, learning Mandarin Chinese and reading a new book every other week.
Zuckerberg hopes his new personal challenge will help him “get out and talk to more people about how they’re living, working and thinking about the future” in light of a “tumultuous last year.” It can be assumed that the states he will be visiting will be ones he has never been to before. This will help him achieve his goal of meeting people in every U.S. state.
In a post on Facebook, Zuckerberg said, “Every year I take on a personal challenge to learn new things and grow outside of my work. In recent years, I’ve run 365 miles, built a simple AI for my home, read 25 books and learned Mandarin.”
Why such a challenge?
Some elites have a feeling that they have lost touch with a large swath of America, and even more so after Donald Trump’s unexpected ascendancy to the White House, notes Fortune.
Zuckerberg noted that people have become more productive due to technology, and globalization has made them better connected. This has created many benefits, but at the same time, life has become more challenging for a lot of people.
“This has contributed to a greater sense of division than I have felt in my lifetime. We need to find a way to change the game so it works for everyone,” Facebook CEO said.
Zuckerberg said he wishes to make a positive impact as the world enters an important new period, and the road trips will make this possible for him. He added that he will take various forms of trips this year, such as road trips with his wife Priscilla, visits to Facebook’s offices across the country, meetings with teachers and scientists, stops in small towns and universities, and trips to fun places recommended to him along the way.
