The scourge of Marissa Mayer and Philippe Dauman – two CEOs out of a job following the release of lengthy white papers from the activist investor – has quietly scrubbed the name of his employer from his Twitter profile. As recently as November 20, Jackson’s bio had put SpringOwl Asset Management before links to his podcasts, while the firm’s Viacom research had spent much of the year as a pinned tweet.

A source told Activist Insight this week that Jackson’s future was “to be decided,” with the man himself declining to comment when I asked the question on Wednesday. SpringOwl is expected to focus on smaller targets in 2017 after mixed results with its large cap targets – Yahoo is up 25% since Jason Ader’s firm announced a stake late last year (despite renewed concerns that an asset sale to Verizon may fall through), while Viacom is down around 30%.
