PS4 Price Drop Announced By Sony: Save $50 On Uncharted 4 Bundle

Updated on

If you’re looking for great gaming deals this Christmas, either for yourself or a loved one, have you considered the PS4 Slim? During the recent Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sale events, Sony dropped the price of the console and now it’s going to lower the PS4 price again!

PS4 price lowered: save $50

Starting on December 11, the PS4 price will drop and remain dropped until Christmas Eve in the U.S. The price drop is for the bundle with a 500GB PS4 Slim and a copy of the popular game Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The bundle also includes one Dual Shock 4 controller, and you can save a total of $50, making the overall cost $249.99.

On the PlayStation Blog, John Koller, Sony Interactive Entertainment America’s VP of PlayStation Brand Marketing, said:

“We first brought you this deal during Black Friday weekend, and it was incredibly successful for PS4 sales, so we decided to bring it back this month. You can treat yourself, or pick this up for someone else on your list. The future of gaming truly lives on PlayStation,” Koller added. “I hope that all of you have seen this brought to life with the release of new hardware like PlayStation VR and PlayStation Pro, as well as new games like The Last Guardian, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Watch Dogs 2.”

Why the PS4 price drop?

PS4 sales have taken a slow but concerted nosedive since the announcement and release of the PS4 Pro. Historically, Sony has done well on Black Fridays and Cyber Mondays, and this year was no different. In fact, due to the lower price of the console bundle, this year’s sale was its best ever. So merely from a business sense, where the bottom line is the master, another reduction to the same level was required.

Sony is also going to drop the price of this bundle in Canada. Right now it is being sold by some retailers for C$379.99. However, when the reduction is applied, Canadian customers will be able to get it for C$329.99.

What about the Xbox One S?

This move to reduce the PS4 price in time for Christmas is a good move by Sony. It’s one that makes the console $50 cheaper than its rival, the Xbox One S. So will Microsoft announce a price cut? Of course we don’t know yet, but it is likely; after all, it wouldn’t want to let Sony to get the upper hand.

If you can’t wait for Microsoft to put its Christmas hat on and have someone you must buy for now, you can get a 500GB white Xbox One S with Battlefield 1 for $288.

Final thoughts

Thanks to Sony and its need to emulate its Black Friday sales over the Christmas period, the PS4 price drop may just cause a price war. From a consumer perspective, all this can be is good news, as if you think about it, Uncharted 4 usually retails for $50+, which means that Sony is offering its console for just under $200.

As we get closer to the big day, it’s likely that we will see more price drops on gaming products, and when they happen, we will quickly share the details with you.
