Facebook is aiming to teach kids about specific safety features. On Tuesday, the social media giant launched the Parents Portal in collaboration with teenagers, safety experts and parents around the world in a bid to empower parents to assist their children in navigating safely on the platform. The tech giant also updated its Safety Center and Bullying Prevention Hub recently.

Facebook Parents Portal provides parents specific advice as part of the Safety Center. The portal includes tips for talking with kids about staying safe online, guides for parents about how the platform actually works and tips from experts around the world. The Parents Portal is available in about 55 languages, including 11 Indian languages. Also it is mobile-friendly and includes step-by-step videos for easy use, notes the The Huffington Post.
Ankhi Das, Facebook’s Public Policy Director for South Asia, India and Central Asia, said that the Parents Portal responds to the feedback they have received about a knowledge gap among parents about available safety tools, resources and policies. Das added that they worked with local partners and safety experts to develop content that resonates with their community.
According to Facebook, the core of everything it does is to keep users and their information safe.
“Whether you have a personal account or your teen does, we’ve compiled some basic information and tips to help you get the most out of your experience and help your child navigate theirs,” the company said.
Step-by-step guidelines for parents
Facebook said it is pleased to connect users with online safety organizations providing additional resources specifically for parents around the world. The tech giant says that parents will find step-by-step guidelines on how to sign up for Facebook.
“Many parents find it helpful to use the same social media apps and sites their teens are using,” the company says.
In the same section, parents can also find Facebook’s Community Standards and related polices that guide them on what can and cannot be shared on the platform, according to the Daily Mail. It also includes how the platform deals with underage accounts and blocking other users to keep them away from young users. The social media giant assures parents that they will eliminate reported content that goes against these standards.
Facebook’s terms and conditions require the user to be at least 13 years old. The social media giant does not accept anyone younger than 13, even if parents allow it.
