Nintendo NX: YouTube Star Says “It’s As Innovative As We’d Hoped”

Updated on

Everyone loves Nintendo. Well, they used to, at least. The Japanese video game company has such a storied history, pedigree, and legacy behind it. Everyone remembers the company’s so called “golden year,” including the original Nintento, Super Nintendo, and the N64. It’s pretty tought to see how hard things have been for them as of late. Their last console, the Wii U, was a complete and total disaster. As such, the company is putting everything behind this last push before the release of their next console, the Nintendo NX.

Despite their woes, Nintendo remains one of the most important, beloved, and powerful video game companies at present. Millions and millions of fans are waiting for the Nintendo NX, and we have some great news: it’s almost here. On top of this fact, according to popular Youtuber Boogie2988, we have a few more hints regarding the console.

Did Boogie2988 just drop a bomb regarding the Nintendo NX?

Boogie2988, a popular Youtuber who is known for his video game news, is known to have friends in the video game business. In a recent panel discussion from Retropalooza, the Youtuber spoke about gaming, YouTube, and the Nintendo NX, among other things.

Within his short bit about the NX, he seemed to hint that he had talked to people close to the NX, and they have confirmed that it will, in fact, be a handheld/console hybrid:

I’ve talked to two people who have used it. One is from Ubisoft and he said programming for it is actually really nice and Nintendo is working very closely with him and that the concept is great because he said, you could play… Uh, I don’t know how careful I should be with it… Let’s say you could play Assassin’s Creed once you have your handheld plugged into your console. And then, you could detach the thing and take it with you and play the Assassin’s Creed mobile game out of your pocket. And then when you get back home, plug it directly in and now it attaches back to the… That’s brilliant. That’s smart, right? Taking a form of the game with you as you go.

If Boogie2988’s sources are correct, it seems as if the NX will be a handheld/console hybrid after all. The YouTuber’s comments have sparked an excited conversation over on Reddit. As this has been one of the main rumors regarding the Nintendo NX, it is becoming more and more apparent that the rumor might, in fact, turn out to be true. Check the video out below.

Will the Nintendo NX play two “forms” of a game?

The popular Youtuber did say that when playing the game on the console’s handheld state would be some sort of “form” of the game. While one cannot be sure on the matter just yet, one can assume that this “form” would simply be the console game with toned-down assets (graphics, fps, etc.).

Ideally, gamers want to play the same game on both handheld mode and console mode for the NX. One obviously doesn’t want to sacrifice the quality of one’s gaming experience just because one is on a handheld instead of at home. Playing the “mobile version” of a game is obviously not ideal, the same with a bunch of “mini-games.” For example, if one buys Assassin’s Creed, they’d like to play Assassin’s Creed.

Reports so far have said that the Nintendo NX is a breeze to develop for, and if it’s packing something like a Tegra X1 or X2 (as it is rumored to be), then the console should indeed be quite powerful. If one is going by difficulty to develop, an entire separate collection of mini-games seems harder to develop than just having the same code adapt the visuals for weaker hardware.

“So he says it’s a dream to code for,” Boogie2988 continued. “And then somebody I know who’s played on the NX for 20 minutes said… It’s as innovative as they’d hoped and said ‘we wish we had done that.’”

Despite increasing hype, Nintendo remains silent

Despite the rumors and speculation swirling throughout the internet, Nintendo has remained entirely tight-lipped in regards to their upcoming console. While one can’t be entirely sure why they have chosen to do so, there are a couple reasons which might make sense for the company.

First, it’s possible that the company is sick of the speculation and rumors that could potentially harm them, especially if some of the turn out to be false. In a way, Nintendo is watching their own back by staying silent on the matter.

Second, it could be possible that the company doesn’t want their fans to make assumptions, reading in between the lines, and overhyping the console, only to be disappointed when it finally releases.

In any case, at this point almost nothing is officially known about the Nintendo NX. Obviously, Nintendo is going to have to release something about the console before it drops. But for now, it seems as if Nintendo fans around the world are going to have to play the waiting game.
