Here’s What Happens When You Drop iPhone 7 Off Burj Khalifa

Updated on

When a new gadget comes out, tech experts from around the world conduct a variety of tests on the device to assess its sturdiness, reliability and safety. In the last few weeks, we have seen many iPhone 7 drop tests, but none of them has gone so far as YouTuber TechRax. People are obsessed with their content going viral. So much so that TechRax chose to drop their brand new iPhone 7 Plus from the tallest building in the world: Burj Khalifa.

iPhone 7 didn’t survive the Burj Khalifa drop test

Folks at TechRax climbed to the 148th floor of Burj Khalifa to drop their iPhone 7 Plus and see what happens when it lands on the surface. The YouTuber has produced in the past videos showing the destruction of expensive gadgets. So, this shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Their latest video of the iPhone 7 Plus being dropped off Burj Khalifa has received more than 2.8 million views.

Burj Khalifa is 829 meters tall. The iPhone 7 Plus in question was not dropped from top of the building, though. The TechRax group dropped it from 148th floor, which is at the height of about 555 meters. That’s high enough to destroy almost any gadget into pieces. The YouTuber narrates towards the end of the video that the phone was probably completely destroyed as he could not track the device even with his FindMyiPhone app.

According to the law of physics, all dropped objects witness a constant acceleration – they drop faster and faster with each passing second. The speed increases at a rate of slightly less than 10 meters per second. However, air resistance also increases and eventually matches gravity, at which point it reaches maximum speed. The iPhone 7 Plus could not defy the laws of physics.

Video creator draws flack from social media users

The stunt might have brought millions of viewers to TechRax’s video, but the YouTuber has received heavy criticism on social media. They dropped the device without telling the officials. It put the safety of visitors at risk. The phone could have hit someone. YouTube user Dan Del commented on the video, “This guy risk someone’s life to make some bucks, fuck you from the bottom of my heart.

There were hundreds of other similar comments. Akash Joshi said, “Are you mad? What about the safety of people down there?

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have the same design as their predecessors, but there are some notable improvements. There is no headphone jack, and the traditional home button has been replaced with a new one. The Plus version features a dual-camera setup to capture better images.
