Here’s How To Stream Facebook Videos To Your TV

Updated on

Yesterday Facebook took another step towards cementing itself as one of the top places online to view video content with the announcement that it will now enable users to stream Facebook videos to their TV. Initially, this is possible via iOS devices with Google Chromecast and Apple TV. However, it will soon be possible to do this with an Android device.

Why Facebook videos on your TV?

The people at Facebook are always looking for ways to improve their service, and they know that users like to connect with stories that have meaning to them. This could be connecting with family across the country or around the world or sharing special events and occasions.

Different options

According to Facebook, it has conducted research, and users have indicated they want more options for viewing Facebook videos. This could be on either big screens or smaller ones; however, the compatibility of streaming device was also an issue.

In a post on the Facebook newsroom, the social media giant says:

“We’re focused on creating video experiences that people want, and we’ve heard that people want different options for how and where they watch videos that they discover on Facebook. To give you, even more, ways to view, we’re excited to roll out the ability to stream videos from Facebook to your TV — through devices like Apple TV or Google Chromecast.

“So you have the option to enjoy your favorite videos on a bigger screen. You can already stream Facebook videos to Apple TV (and other AirPlay-enabled devices) or Chromecast (and other Google Cast–enabled devices) from an iOS device or your web browser, and soon you’ll be able to cast from Android devices to Chromecast as well.”

How to Watch Facebook videos on your TV

Watching a video on your television is simple with Facebook. Just follow the simple instructions below, and you’ll soon be enjoying your favorite videos.

  1. Find a video on your smartphone or computer and press the TV icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Next, choose the device you want the Facebook video to stream to.
  3. And that’s it; you can now enjoy your video on a TV or any other compatible device.

Scroll the News Feed while streaming

Unlike many other streaming services, Facebook does not trap you. Users are free to watch Facebook videos and browse their News Feed at the same time. This enables a user to catch up on the news, discover new content, or watch more Facebook videos via the feed or a saved tab.

Additionally, if you’re using Facebook Live to stream, you can keep an eye on reactions and comments in real time, plus you can react to a comment and keep the conversation going, which is exactly what users of this service would expect.

Final thoughts

Is this something new? For Facebook users, yes it is. However, YouTube has been offering this capability for a long time now, so this is just Facebook catching up. I doubt will care though. Instead, they will be happy that streaming Facebook videos to a TV and browsing their feed is now possible simultaneously.
