FBI Investigates New Hillary Clinton Emails Just Ahead Of US Elections

Updated on

While Hillary Clinton seems to be coasting to a victory over Donald Trump on Nov. 8th, her campaign will be given pause today as FBI Director James Comey wrote a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday stating that new emails potentially pertinent to their “closed” investigation will be looked at presently.

Unrelated case brings back the Clinton FBI investigation

“In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation … I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation,” he wrote.

“In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation. I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation,” he added.

“Although the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant, and I cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work, I believe it is important to update your Committees about our efforts in light of my previous testimony,” Comey finished.

While it’s unlikely that any part of this new investigation will become public prior to the election, it will certainly give voters something to think about and additional fodder on Clinton’s “crookedness” to the Trump campaign with just eleven days before the election.

In September, Comey outraged Republicans and some Democrats as well as he informed the nation that his office would not be seeking criminal charges against Clinton in relation to her use of a private email server.

All this means, end of the day, is that FBI agents will be directed to read the newly discovered emails. Many have pointed out that it’s quite strange that the FBI would share this information with Congress especially given the upcoming election.

When a top Clinton campaign spokesperson was asked by NBC News to speak on why this was done NBC received no more than, “No idea.”
“We’re learning about this just like you all are,” a Clinton another aide told CNN.

Donald Trump had a lot more to say on the campaign trail

Director of the FBI, James Comey, has faced heat from many in the Trump camp and Trump himself in what as perceived as not taking Clinton’s use of a private email server and potential mishandling of classified information.

While it’s quite possible that Comey made this decision for legacy reasons or simply to dampen conspiracy calls from Donald Trump, the Clinton camp is not happy and Trump seemed nearly ecstatic while campaigning in New Hampshire today.

Trump, speaking to his raucous crowds in Manchester, NH today thanked the FBI for showing the  “courage” to “right the horrible mistake that they made.”

“Hillary Clinton’s corruption is on a scale we have never seen before,” Trump said. “We must not let her take her criminal scheme into the Oval Office.”

Following those remarks, Trump joked, “The rest of my speech is going to be so boring.”
