Pokemon Go for iOS: How to Bypass iOS Jailbreak Detection

Updated on

If you have a jailbroken iPhone and prefer the freedom that it gives you but want to play Pokemon Go, until quite recently, it was possible. However, the games developer has now released update 1.7.0 for iOS, which removes support for jailbroken devices. But don’t panic; there’s some good news. Savvy developers/hackers have created a workaround.

Niantic’s restrictions

This latest update by Niantic for Pokemon Go has affected both rooted Android and jailbroken iOS devices, and as a few days has passed since its release, the chances of everyone being affected are quite high. The developer claims that the restrictions were put in place to cut down on the amount of “bots and scrapers.” This is because for a fee, they enable users to sit back while the bot plays the game.

However, it is a well-known fact that these kinds of services to not need a user to have a jailbroken iOS device. So the reason behind the restriction is more likely to be aimed at users taking advantage of GPS spoofing.

Workaround on iOS for Pokemon Go

The creator of Phantom for Snapchat, CokePokes, has got together with one of the latest jailbreak tweaks called Masterball. This new tweak allows an iOS user to bypass the jailbreak detection update for Pokemon Go on iPhone and iPad.

With Masterball, you can play Pokemon Go without the fear of being blocked. However, this is for jailbroken devices, so if you’re running stock iOS and have problems playing, something else is wrong.

How to bypass Pokemon Go‘s jailbreak detection

So if you’re certain that you have a jailbroken iPhone or iPad, I am now going to tell you how to fix your Pokemon Go problem.

  1. Launch Cydia on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Next, add the following source: http://cokepokes.github.io/
  3. Now use Cydia’s search function to look for Masterball and install it.

If you cannot find it, reload the sources via the changes tab. Sometimes the servers can be down, so this will help. Once you have found and installed the tweak, you are ready to start playing Pokemon Go again.

If you find that Masterball does not work for you, try the following alternatives. These will also make the game think your device is not jailbroken.

  1. Go to the BigBoss repo and look for the trial version of txProtector 8+.
  2. You can also give PokePatch a try from ryleyangus.com/repo

Xcon for Pokemon Go v1.7 and higher

Over the last few days, it has become evident that this new Pokemon Go update may have caused other problems. However, most of the problems are due to the new buddy system and again, they affect jailbroken devices. It’s believed that the problem occurs when the game is launched. It appears to make Pokemon Go pause on the loading screen and stay like that on jailbroken devices.

However, yet again, the game playing community has come to the rescue of stricken players. This time, a user on r/jailbreak Reddit has shared a new jailbreak detection bypass method. But unlike previous methods, this one introduces a new package called Xcon, and it works.

To take advantage of Xcon, follow the below instructions.

  1. To start with you need to delete Pokemon Go
  2. Next, go to Cydia and add the following repo: http://beta.unlimapps.com/
  3. Now install Xcon for Pokemon Go and then reinstall the game.

And that’s it. With one of the methods above, you should be able to play the biggest game in the world again within minutes.
