Updates to Apple’s Mac line are long overdue. Consistent rumors and leaks about new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air suggest that the Cupertino company would hold an event in October to unveil new Macs. Now MacRumors has learned from its sources that a redesigned MacBook Pro could be available in retail stores as early as the second half of October.
An OLED screen to replace function keys in new MacBook Pro
The development of macOS 10.12.1 is in the final stages. Once the software update is finalized by the end of next week, it will be loaded to the new hardware produced by Apple’s contract manufacturers in Asia. Sources told MacRumors that the timeline could change slightly depending on last-minute bugs or other hiccups. The current macOS development work is focused on preparing it to support new features on MacBook Pro.
The upcoming MacBook Pro is rumored to feature TouchID support and a new OLED touch bar that will replace the current function keys at the top of the keyboard. The touch-sensitive OLED screen will perform the same tasks as physical function keys, but it will also allow you to interact with apps and other features. The TouchID will let you unlock the device using the fingerprint.
Apple working on a 5K display
The new MacBook is said to use AMD’s Polaris graphics chip on the 15-inch model. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBooks will be slimmer than the current generation MacBook Pros. The rumor mill indicates that the next-gen Macs will use USB Type-C charging port instead of a magnetic MagSafe connection. Apple is also expected to launch new iMacs with AMD graphics chips and new MacBook Airs at the same event.
It is unclear whether the iPhone maker will hold a media event to unveil the new hardware products or keep it a low-key affair with a press release announcement. The tech giant is also working with LG Electronics on a 5K external display, most likely to replace the Thunderbolt display which has been discontinued.
