LG V20 Specs Leaked Online

Updated on

Korean tech company LG is gearing up for the release of its V20 flagship smartphone, and rumors continue to swirl.

The new smartphone will be released on September 6, according to the company. It will ship with Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box, making it the first handset to use the latest Android operating system, according to PhonesSpot

Leaks and rumors in lead up to launch

Last year the company brought out the LG V10 smartphone, which was the second flagship of 2015. It followed on from the LG G4, and had slightly better technical specs.

One of the most interesting features was a secondary “ticker” display that sits above the main panel. The phone got some good reviews, thanks to quality materials and specs. Now it will be replaced by the LG V20.

Specs for the upcoming Android phone were first seen on August 1 in South Korea, and they raised a few eyebrows. The leak said that the LG V20 would have a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, compared to the 5.7-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display on the LG V10.

Specs revealed in latest leak

However a new spec sheet has surfaced which says that the upcoming smartphone will have a 5.7-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) QHD panel like its predecessor. It will also apparently have 4GB RAM and a ticker display similar to the LG V10.

The phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core SoC, with the Adreno 530 GPU on hand to deal with graphics processing. When it comes to cameras it looks like a 21 MP shooter will be on the back of the phone, while a dual-camera system will be employed on the front. The leak suggests that two 8 MP units could be fitted.

The source also claims that the phone will look vaguely similar to the LG V10. There will be no modularity as there was with the LG G5. The source cites a reliable source but does not provide any details, so take all of this speculation with a pinch of salt.

High-end smartphone market hotting up

The release of the LG V20 will follow hot on the heels of the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The Korean tech giant recently unveiled its flagship phablet, and it looks like a decent bit of kit.

At the same time Apple is gearing up for the release of the iPhone 7, which is also predicted to launch in September. Apple is expected to stick with the design of the existing iPhone 6s, but do away with the headphone jack and change the positioning of the antenna bands.

Although the iPhone 7 is not expected to be packed with innovation, it will be joining a crowded high-end smartphone market. Samsung recently became the biggest selling smartphone brand in the key U.S. market, with Apple in second place.

LG is going into battle with two industry behemoths with the V20 smartphone. It will need to be a mighty impressive handset if the company is to eat into the market share currently controlled by Apple and Samsung.

With decent build quality, good cameras and the novelty of a second ticker screen, the LG V20 could be a nice option for those who are looking for something different. However it is hard to see the phone making any great inroads against the dominance of the big two.
