GTA 6 To Support Virtual Reality Or Not?

Updated on

The Grand Theft Auto series, ever since its inception way back in 1997, has been one of the most well-loved and celebrated video game series, not to mention a cultural phenomenon on its own. The massive success of the franchise can be undoubtedly attributed to all of its factors that, in one way or another, have contributed to making the games themselves exceptionally unique.

Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon

Not long after the game first exploded into popular culture did many others like it begin having their fair share in the then-newly popular genre of open-world crime simulation. Soon enough, there were many video games striving to be like GTA. However, despite that the game is no longer wholly unique in its existence, it still certainly stands that Grand Theft Auto was the first of its kind.

Now, almost two decades since the game first skyrocketed onto the scene, it seems as if it developers are under loads of pressure to come up with something just as distinct as the series’ first iteration. Factoring changes in the video game market into the mix, such as the upcoming next-generation consoles as well as the introduction of 4K and virtual reality gaming, in addition to a number of factors due to recent legal restraints within Rockstar Games, it’s hard not to deny that there are big changes coming in the world of gaming.

Grand Theft Auto 6 to take advantage of next-gen hardware?

Fans of the wildly popular game franchise still maintain high hopes that the sixth installment is still on its way, and that it will take advantage of all of the new video game technologies that will be at its disposal. Virtual reality is one of these features that fans hope to see included in the game that, despite Rockstar to this not not revealing anything, hopefully sees the light of day.

While Rockstar hasn’t revealed a single thing regarding the game, there is one thing that fans are quite sure of: it’s very likely that Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive alongside the next-generation consoles. If this is indeed the case, then there is little to no doubt that the game will contain some sort of virtual reality feature.

According to Neurogadget, the probable release of the game will either be sometime as early as 2018 or as late as 2020. With such information, it can be assumed that the title will be launched alongside what we’ll call the Xbox Two and the PlayStation 5 (although these are absolutely not certain at this point).

GTA in virtual reality would be a game-changer

If this line of thought turns out to be true, then there is every possibility that the game will come equipped with VR compatibility. It is important to note that this has been a rumor for quite some time, and fans have been drooling over this possibility for years now.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will, without a doubt, come equipped with incredible graphics and drastic improvements over its predecessor. It will most certainly require an incredible powerful machine to run it properly. However, as Grand Theft Auto 5 is still going strong, there is every reason as to why Rockstar is not rushing out the title.

Virtual reality or not, most fans and video game journalists alike are anticipating that Grand Theft Auto 6 will, at some point, become a reality. At this point, it is hard to tell when, as it seems like we are all going to be patient for this one.
