Cydia Eraser Updated To Let You Un-jailbreak iOS 9.3.3 Without iTunes Restore

Updated on

Jay Freeman aka Saurik – the guy behind Cydia – has updated the Cydia Eraser tool (formerly called Cydia Impactor) to support the iOS 9.3.3 on jailbroken iPhones and iPads. If you have used Pangu’s tool to jailbreak your iOS 9.3.3 device, you can now use Cydia Eraser to un-jailbreak it and return to the stock non-jailbroken iOS 9.3.3.

Who stands to benefit from the updated Cydia Eraser?

The timing of the update couldn’t have been better. Just a few days ago, Apple released the iOS 9.3.4 to fix the loopholes Pangu had exploited to jailbreak the iOS 9.3.3. The Cupertino company could stop signing iOS 9.3.3 anytime in the near future. The Cydia Eraser can prove useful here if you want to go back to the stock iOS 9.3.3 for some reason without having to use the iTunes restore.

One of the biggest benefits of using Cydia Eraser is that is un-jailbreaks a device to bring back to the same jailbreak-friendly firmware even after Apple has stopped signing that firmware. It means you can re-jailbreak your iPhone or iPad. For instance, if you need to send your iDevice to Apple for repairing, you can remove the jailbreak before sending and re-jailbreak once you get it back from Apple.

Use it only as a last resort

Also, if you are selling your device, making sure it runs a jailbreak-friendly firmware would help the new buyer enjoy the benefits of jailbreaking. Since Cydia Eraser erases everything off your device, you are recommended to backup your data before un-jailbreaking the device. The tool takes advantage of the over-the-air update system to un-jailbreak a device.

Jay Freeman says it should be used only as a last resort if you are experiencing trouble with your jailbroken iPhone or iPad. That’s because it removes all the files and settings. Once the tool has finished running, you’ll have to set it up, reinstall all your apps, and apply the old settings manually.
