Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Launch Date Confirmed: Aug 2

Updated on

All those rumors and speculations about the Galaxy Note 7 launch have turned out to be true. Samsung has confirmed that it would unveil the Galaxy Note 7 at a ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event on August 2. In an invite sent to the media, the Korean company said the event will take place at 11 am EDT in New York. Simultaneous events will also be held in London and Rio de Janeiro.

Samsung explains why new phone is named Galaxy Note 7

The world’s largest smartphone maker said in the invite that the upcoming Note 7 will “help people do more in work, at home and everywhere in between.” The device is expected to have a dual-edge display, similar to that of the Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung also cleared the air as to why it is going to name the next phablet Galaxy Note 7 instead of Note 6.

First, it will bring the Note line to naming parity with the Galaxy S line, unifying Samsung’s product portfolio. Second, naming the new device Galaxy Note 7 will “minimize confusion about the latest mobile technology from Samsung.” The name change could also help Samsung position its device better against Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7. The Note 7 is also expected to boast of an iris scanner for authentication and security.

The costliest Note

The upcoming Note 7 is rumored to sport a 5.8-inch Quad HD display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution, at least 4GB RAM, 12-megapixel main camera, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. The device is said to have 32GB of built-in storage with microSD card slot, 3,600mAh battery, and a USB Type-C port. If recent rumors are to be believed, the Note 7 will be available in three color options: black onyx, silver titanium and blue coral.

Earlier this week, Dutch publication TechTastic revealed that the Galaxy Note 7 could be Samsung’s costliest smartphone yet. Sources told the publication that it will have a starting price of €849 ($940) in Europe, €50 higher than the price of Galaxy S7 Edge. Phones with a dual-edge display have a higher production cost.
