Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) ‘s show Orange is the New Black is still as popular as ever based on the latest numbers from Nielson, reports Digital Spy. The video streaming giant does not release official data on the number of people watching its shows. However, Nielson has had some success in ascertaining TV ratings for Netflix and its competitors Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.

Nielson data backed by producers

Nielson, the firm which measures broadcast network ratings in the U.S., says the new season of Netflix’s prison comedy-drama Orange is the New Black has reached around 7 million viewers in the United States alone. Apparently, the premiere episode of season four was viewed by 6.7 million people, and around 5.9 million people viewed episode two, the report says.

Netflix has not confirmed these ratings, so they might not be accurate. Data like this is shared privately with studios only, but Nielson is known for its credibility, and Lionsgate, the studio which produces the prison-based drama, backed the data as well. Nielsen disclosed the list of ratings for some of the most popular shows on streaming services at the Consumer 360 conference in Las Vegas.

Netflix’s Orange is the New Black has already been renewed for three more seasons. It stars an ensemble cast that includes Kate Mulgrew, Taylor Schilling, Michael Harney, Laura Prepon, Uzo Aduba, Samira Wiley, Natasha Lyonne and Nick Sandow.

Netflix has still not revealed the official premiere date for Orange is the New Black Season 5, but fans expect the upcoming season to premiere in June next year, based on Netflix’s usual schedule for the show.
