With mega-fund after mega-fund being raised lately, it’s easy to forget about VCs of more modest means, even though they play a huge role in the ecosystem. In an effort to shed light on these investors, we took a look at deal activity for firms with under $1 billion in AUM. The results reveal an incredibly active cohort. Since the beginning of 2014, 1,338 such VC firms have participated in a total of 11,500 deals worldwide, according to the PitchBook Platform. Of the 829 investors that were active in the first half of this year, 39 completed 10 deals or more.
