But two new reports suggest that there is more to the iPhone 7 than previously rumored.
iPhone 7 home button to give a haptic feedback
According to MacOtakara and Storm.mg, the home button in the iPhone 7 won’t click physically when you press it. It is likely to simulate the feeling of a click with haptic feedback, similar to the Force Touch trackpad on the 12-inch MacBook and newer MacBook Pros. The change is aimed at making the next-gen iPhone more waterproof and dustproof than ever before. Last year’s iPhone 6S and 6S Plus waterproof, but only to a certain degree.
The Force Touch trackpad can distinguish between a simple tap and a hard press, reports Apple Insider. A static home button could further reduce the thickness of the iPhone 7. The upcoming devices were already said to be the slimmest iPhones ever, thanks to the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. However, more recent rumors claim that Apple may choose to retain the headphone jack in the iPhone 7.
Will it be called iPhone 6SE?
It is not the first time rumors about a “Force Touch ID” home button in the iPhone 7 have surfaced. But the latest reports lend credibility to previous rumors that the feature could be a reality. Noted tipster Evan Blass revealed recently that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will go on sale on Friday, September 16th. The 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus is expected to get a dual camera setup and a Smart Connector.
A few days ago, German publication Apfelpage.de claimed that Apple would name its new device iPhone 6SE instead of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Supply chain sources told the publication that packaging labels were going with the iPhone 6SE tag instead of the iPhone 7.
