As is usual for this time of year, Apple is preparing to release a myriad of new devices in a few months. Hype is building, and Apple fanatics are reaching new levels of excitement. Aside from the huge anticipation of the iPhone 7, there is another upcoming Apple product that deserves the same kind of attention – the iPad mini 5.
The iPad mini 4 was released last September, with significant design changes, updated specifications, and new features that made it one of the best small tablets on the market. Typically, there is a new iPad mini every year, and, if this pattern continues, one can expect the new iPad mini 5 to be released sometime soon.

iPad mini 5? Or iPad Pro mini?
As is usual, it’s tough to predict what Apple plans to name its newest devices. Logic dictates that the next iPad will be called the iPad mini 5. There is speculation, however, that Apple plans to bring the device into the iPad Pro nomenclature.
If Apple does indeed choose this route, one can expect the device to be named the iPad Pro mini, which does indeed make sense, as Apple would then have an iPad Pro in each of its screen sizes: 12.9-inch, 9.7-inch, and 7.9-inch.
When can we expect the device?
Historically, Apple has a habit of revealing its newest products in September, and it the company does indeed continue this tradition, consumers can expect a new iPad mini in two months or less.
The Cupertino-based company generally releases its products to the public quickly after they are announced, so if things go as they historically do, there is a high probability that the device will be available before September ends.
Many rumors circulating seem to point to September 16 as the release date for the next iPhone, so in all likelihood, the iPad mini 5 will be available on the same day.
Price points
Just like the release date, Apple generally prices its products at a predictable level, as they usually stay the same. New products ordinarily fill the price slots of the preexisting devices, while the older models are reduced in price slightly.
Apple priced its 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB iPad mini models at $399, $499, and $599, respectively, so consumers can expect the iPad mini 5 (or whatever it ends up being called) to be offered at those prices.
In addition to these price points, Apple offers a cellular model of each iPad mini version, which adds another $130 to the preexisting price point. Obviously, this doesn’t include the data cost.
Any design changes?
Apple will most likely keep the same 7.9-inch screen size that has been one of the defining characteristics of the iPad mini. However, rumors suggest that the new model will have a thinner body.
According to speculation, the new iPad mini will only be 5mm thick, 1.4 mm thinner than the iPad mini 4. Additionally, there is speculation that the new model will get rid of the headphone jack, as rumors about the iPhone 7 suggest.
Updates specifications and performance
Many rumors speculate that the new iPad mini will be powered by an upgraded A9 processor, which will allow the device to run faster and create better graphics.
The camera is rumored to stay the same, meaning there is an 8MP on the back and a 1.2MP camera on the front.
