Samsung is all set to start mass production of its next-gen Galaxy Note 7 phablet in July. Industry sources told Korean publication ET News that Samsung has started placing orders for components ahead of the planned production of the Note 7. That’s not all, the world’s largest smartphone maker expects strong consumer demand for its upcoming device.
Samsung expects solid demand for the new Note
According to the report, Samsung will manufacture 5 million units of the Galaxy Note 7 for the “initial supply.” Of that, 2.5 million units will be produced in July and another 2.5 million in August. Last year, the company had an initial production of 5 million units of Galaxy Note 5 in three months. It indicates that Samsung expects a strong performance for the Note 7.
ET News added that the device will have a dual-edge OLED display. It would be the first time Samsung will use a dual-curved display in the Note line. The upcoming Note will also feature an Iris scanner, allowing users to unlock the device just by looking at it. The Iris scanner will be supplied by Patron. If you don’t like the Iris scanner, there will be other options such as fingerprint scanner and PIN.
Galaxy Note 7 to unveiled on August 2
A leaked Galaxy Unpacked event invite suggests that the Galaxy Note 7 will be unveiled on August 2 in New York, and will go on sale in the week of August 15. One reason Samsung is starting the production early is that it wants to bring the phone to market about a month before Apple’s iPhone 7. Samsung has reportedly decided to skip the Galaxy Note 6 moniker to bring consistency between the numbering of its Note line and Galaxy S series.
The Galaxy Note 7 is rumored to feature a 5.8-inch Quad HD display, 6GB RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera, USB Type-C port, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 processor, and a 4,000mAh battery. It will be the first Note phablet to include water- and dust-proofing capabilities.
