How To Fix Crashing Apps In iOS 10 Beta

Updated on

It not much over a week since Apple launched iOS 10 at WWDC 2016, the OS which it claimed was the biggest shake-up of the operating system in its history. And since its launch the OS has been the recipient of some serious ravings by many a user. This is mainly due to the many new features that have been incorporated into the OS, and it is for this reason alone that many iPhone and iPad owners have decided to install the IOS 10 beta in order to get their hands on them.

iOS 10 Crashing

If you’re considering getting the beta version of the OS, what you need to remember is, it is in its earliest stage of public development. You should probably expect to experience certain issues like crashing, and from what I can tell, quite a few users have experienced that particular problem. I have also experienced the same issues, however, sometimes I notice that an app will crash when launching, which is extremely irritating.

Fortunately, there are already some tricks that you can try and use to fix any crashes that you are experiencing. In the rest of this article, I am going to share them with you, so make sure you read every part properly, no skimming over certain parts.

How to Fix App Crashing in iOS 10

To start with, if you find that apps just keep crashing every time you try to launch them, you should probably start by rebooting your iPhone or iPad. You can do this quickly by holding down the Home button plus the sleep/wake button, all at the same time. You know you have done this correctly when you see the Apple logo.

Update the Apps

If you are experiencing regular app crashing, a rule of thumb would be to make sure you have the very latest version. This piece of advice has worked for me on many occasions, so hopefully it will for you. To do this go to the App Store > Updates and then Update all.

How To Fix Crashing Apps In iOS 10 Beta

Turn off Background App Refresh

To troubleshoot this problem you need to have as much juice in your battery as possible. Apps that are continually updated in the background use a lot of Wi-Fi or Cellular data, so turning this ability off will help. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Tap on Settings and then General.
  2. Locate and tap on background app refresh.
  3. Using the toggle turn off background app refresh.

Disable Automatic App Downloads

One feature of iOS that it is easy to forget about when upgrading to the iOS 10 beta is that of iCloud and its ability to automatically download and purchase new versions of apps. This is possible because the iCloud account is synced across all iOS devices that you may own, so it is better to disable it.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Find settings > iTunes & App Store.
  2. Locate Auto App Download and use the toggle to switch it to off.

Delete and Reinstall the App

Overtime apps pile up lots of documents and data in the background of your device. And when this has been happening for some-time, it can lead to issues like crashing. One tried and tested method of solving this problem has been to uninstall and then reinstall an app, and it is easy to do.

Deleting an app is a simple process, all you have to do is tap and hold the app until the icon starts to wiggle. When this starts tap on the cross symbol that appears and confirm the deletion in the popup.

Settings to be Reset

As it stands, I have been able to fix all of the crashes I have experienced by resettings all of the settings on my iPhone. However, it can be quite an irritating solution, due to the amount of re-entering of information that is required when complete. To do this go to settings > General and then reset all settings.

Last Resort

If nothing I have shared above with you works, you will more than likely have to downgrade back to iOS 9.3.2, luckily for you last week I wrote a How to on this subject. You will find it here.
