Though Samsung fans are eagerly looking forward to the Galaxy Note 7, the Korean electronics major is preparing for an even more impressive smartphone lineup in 2017. Last month, rumors surfaced that Samsung would launch five flagship smartphones next year: Galaxy S8, S8 Edge, Note 8, Note 8 Edge, and a Galaxy X. The Galaxy X is said to have a foldable display.

Samsung has already developed a 4K display

A Korean market research firm says that the Galaxy S8 will have a 5.5-inch 4K Ultra HD display. Citing UBI Research, the Korea Herald reported Wednesday that Samsung Display showed off a 5.5-inch 4K UHD display at the Society for Information Display in California in March. The display had a pixel density of 806 ppi for virtual reality headsets.

UBI Research expects the production yield rate for the next-gen display to improve in the coming months. It would be difficult for most users to tell the difference between a 2K and a 4K display. The Galaxy S7 had a pixel density of roughly 600 ppi. The Galaxy S8’s high-resolution screen is mainly for the purpose of virtual reality, which has been gaining momentum. A 4K display is important for virtual reality as companies need to offer better VR experience when users are staring into a device dangling inches from their eyeballs.

Galaxy S8 to have a mind-boggling camera

UBI Research claims that the Galaxy S8 will have a 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution. Other reports indicate that we can expect a mind-boggling camera when the next Galaxy S phone comes out. Samsung is said to have moved its core NX engineers to the smartphone camera unit. It has also clarified that it won’t release new NX cameras, at least in a few countries.

According to PhotoRumors, the Galaxy S8 snapper will be as good as a standalone camera. The Korean company is currently working on a 1/2.3-inch sensor, and plans to make a 1/1.7-inch sensor with f/1.4 aperture. It will allow more light to pass through the lens to capture better images.Notably, the new sensor is intended for smartphones instead of standalone camera phones.
