Samsung’s next-gen phablet Galaxy Note 7 “is just around the corner.” Last month, reports surfaced that the Korean company will skip the “Note 6” moniker and name the device Galaxy Note 7 to bring the numbering of the Note on par with the Galaxy S series. Now a leaked Unpacked event invite has revealed a firm launch date. The image, obtained by SamMobile, indicates that the device will be unveiled on August 2.
Samsung to hold the Unpacked event in New York?
The leak corroborates with a report from reliable tipster Evan Blass, who said on June 2 that the Note 7 unveiling was “almost exactly two months away.” According to the leaked invite, the phablet will be unveiled at a Galaxy Unpacked event at the Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York. The curved lines in the image point to the number ‘7’, confirming that Samsung is indeed skipping the Note 6 generation.
Samsung has been working on the standard Galaxy Note 7 as well as the Note 7 Edge. But SamMobile says only one of the two models will hit the store shelves. The phrase “The next edge is just around the corner” indicates that we are likely to see the dual-edge version of the Note 7. The phone is said to go on sale in the United States and Europe in the week of August 15.
You can unlock Galaxy Note 7 by looking at it
Though the event will take place in New York, Samsung is likely to livestream it for its fans around the world. Other leaks suggest that the Note 7 will bring iris scanner. Users will be able to unlock their phones simply by looking at it, though they can also unlock it using PIN or fingerprint scanner. Samsung has also filed trademark applications for “Samsung Eyeprint” and “Samsung Iris” in Europe.
The Galaxy Note 7 is said to feature a 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, 6GB RAM, a USB Type-C port, a microSD card slot, Snapdragon 823 processor, and water-resistant body. The phone is rumored to pack a huge 4,000mAh battery.
