Two big devices – the iPhone 7 and Galaxy Note 6 — will soon hit the markets. DigiTimes said on Tuesday that Apple’s manufacturing partners are gearing up to ship the new iPhones by the end of the third quarter. The company’s top competitor, Samsung, may release its Galaxy Note 6 in mid-August.

Will the iPhone 7 lure buyers?

Recently there were reports that the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and rumored iPhone 7 Pro have entered the manufacturing phase, but this new report from DigiTimes claims the new iPhones will be ready by the end of September. This isn’t surprising as usually Apple unveils and starts selling its newest phones by September.

As per the report, Wistron and Foxconn are manufacturing the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 7, while the 4.7-inch model is with Pegatron and Foxconn. There was no mention of the so-called “Pro” version, which is expected to sport a 5.5-inch display.

In terms of the features, there are rumors that one of the next iPhones, probably the iPhone 7 Plus, will come with  dual-lens camera, while the regular iPhone 7 is expected to again have a single-lens camera. Also there have been reports that this year’s iPhone will sport stereo speakers and a rear camera that’s flush with the phone’s surface.

However, many – including KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo – believe that the iPhone 7 will not offer any new must-have features to lure buyers. Instead, the iPhone maker may be saving the major new features like an edge-to-edge display and the removal of the physical home button for the 2017 lineup.

Galaxy Note 6 to benefit from S7 family

Samsung’s releasing the Galaxy Note 6 in August is just a rumor for now, but the source is very reliable. The person behind it is Evan Blass, who is well-known for accurate leaks on new mobile devices.

Blass tweeted: “Samsung Galaxy Note 6 US release date scheduled for week of August 15.”

Previous leaks talk suggest the Note 6’s specifications. The device is expected to boast IP68 water resistance, a 5.8-inch screen, a powerful 4,000 mAh battery and 6GB of RAM. The device will come with the usual Note slot-in stylus to help with navigation. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 6 is expected to ship with Android N, Google’s latest major iteration of its mobile operating system.

The releases of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Plus have put Samsung in a very strong position currently. The company will use the lessons it learned from the successful launch of the S7 family when releasing the Galaxy Note 6. The Korean firm will need to create an image of being a company that leads through innovation and technology.

It seems that the curved screen of the S7 Edge will help the company achieve this. This device is seen as Samsung’s most innovative platform.

iPhone 7 vs. Galaxy Note 6

As rumors state that Apple will launch the iPhone 7 range at the end of September, the Galaxy Note 6 could have four weeks of retail sales, reviews and articles before Tim Cook reveals the new Apple hardware.

Samsung released the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones before Apple released the iPhone SE, and this made it possible for the South Korean firm to get the jump on Apple’s device in terms of mind share, positioning and sales.
