In the last few weeks, there have been a variety of leaks and rumors indicating that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 6 phablet would boast of a humongous 6GB RAM. While nothing can be said with certainty until the device is unveiled officially, Samsung has made an announcement that lends further credibility to these rumors. According to noted tipster Evan Blass, the Galaxy Note 6 will hit the US store shelves in the week of August 15th.
Samsung shows off 6GB DRAM
At its Mobile Solution Forum in Shenzhen, China, the Korean electronics giant announced its newest DRAM chip for high-end devices, reports Phone Arena. The LPDDR4 6GB DRAM is made using the 10nm process. The last year’s Galaxy Note 5 packed more RAM than the Galaxy S6. So, there is a pretty good chance that upcoming Note 6 will have more RAM than Galaxy S7, which packs a 4GB RAM.
The new chip is said to be 20% more energy efficient and 30% faster than the previous RAM modules produced using 20nm process technology. If used in the Note 6, it should extend the phablet’s battery life. What’s more, recent reports suggest that Apple may use the same DRAM for its iPhone 7. According to BGR, the iPhone 7 will have a 3GB LPDDR4 RAM supplied by Samsung.
Galaxy Note 6: Rumored features and specs
The Galaxy Note 6 is expected to be a powerhouse device with a 5.8-inch Quad HD display and 2K resolution, a Snapdragon 823 or an improved Exynos 8890 processor, 256GB memory, and a huge 4,200mAh battery. The phablet is said to be dustproof and waterproof, and will include a microSD card slot. Though its camera is expected to be similar to the Galaxy S7’s 12MP shooter, the Note 6 camera will include an infra-red autofocus module.
Samsung is also rumored to release an upgraded Galaxy VR to go alongside the Note 6. The Korean company is looking to launch the Galaxy Note 6 about a month before the iPhone 7 to attract customers away from Apple’s flagship device. Samsung used the same launch strategy with the Galaxy S7, which became a grand success.
