This Hilarious Video Shows What Tesla Model 3 Can Do To Rivals

Updated on

Not too long ago, big name automakers like General Motors, BMW and Volkswagen were mocking Tesla. Now they are all alarmed as reservations for Tesla’s mass market car Model 3 are approaching 400,000 in less than a month after unveiling. The euphoria around Model 3 reminds one of the iPhone in 2007. Now Tesla Motors Fans has released a hilarious parody video showing what Tesla could do to its rivals that have dominated the auto industry for over a decade or century.

Model 3 vs Audi, Porsche, Lexus

For some reason, Tesla Motors Fans chose Porsche, Audi and Lexus. There is also a new player at the end of the clip, Faraday Future. Backed by a Chinese billionaire, Faraday Future aims to take on Tesla in the electric vehicle market. The video has been set up on the moon or an asteroid. The upcoming Model 3 would give Tesla a huge boost at the expense of these and other rivals.

Tesla’s mass market electric vehicle offers a range of 200 miles per charge. The company aims to increase it further by the time the vehicle hits the road in late 2017. Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk recently predicted that Model 3 pre-orders could surpass 500,000 if they continue at the current pace. By comparison, the Palo Alto-based company was eyeing 500,000 unit sales by 2020.

German automakers see Tesla as a serious threat

The established automakers have failed to fathom how a loss-making company from California could compete with the giants with a century of expertise. In November, Edzard Reuter, a former Daimler CEO, called Tesla “a joke that can’t be taken seriously.” After massive pre-orders for Model 3, German automakers now see Tesla as a serious threat. Auto industry directly and indirectly accounts for 1 in 8 jobs in Germany.

Ferdinand Dudenhoeffer, a German auto industry analyst, told the Los Angeles Times that the German automakers were “taking Tesla more seriously every day now.” Today, they are seeing that the man they called a “pretender” is leading the revolution, said Dudenhoeffer. German automakers like Volkswagen and BMW also make electric cars, but their vehicles have failed to offer a range of above 100 miles.
