Tesla’s newly unveiled Model 3 is off to an impressive start. Elon Musk said in a tweet that Model 3 pre-orders surpassed 276,000 in just 36 hours. The company requires customers to put down $1,000 to book the vehicle. Given the new car’s base price of $35,000, the EV maker has received pre-orders worth roughly $10 billion for a vehicle that will not arrive until late 2017. Tesla is fast becoming the new Apple!
Tesla also tweaking front facia of Model 3
Tesla founder Elon Musk took to Twitter to answer questions about Model 3 from fans and followers. During the interaction with his followers, Musk revealed some interesting details about the company’s mass-market car that has a range of 215 miles. The billionaire innovator has already said that the company would work to further improve the range by the time Model 3 hits the road.
A Twitter user suggested him to better optimize the interiors for driving comfort. Musk asked the user to wait to see the real steering controls and system for the car. “It feels like a spaceship.” The interiors he showed last week were not part of the final design. Responding to another user, he said Tesla was also tweaking the front facia to make it look even more cool.

It will be a rear-wheel drive car
Last week’s unveiling gave only half the picture. Tesla will hold Part-2 of Model 3 unveiling much closer to the production time to show off the final design and specifications. Rear seat of the upcoming car will fold so you can sleep on it. Model 3 will be available with rear-wheel drive, but the company will also offer an all-wheel drive version that will be pricier than the standard version.
Model 3 pre-orders were beyond what Elon Musk was expecting. He tweeted that Tesla was “definitely going to need to rethink production planning.” The company aims to sell 500,000 cars in 2020. First deliveries of Model 3 will begin in late 2017 in the US West Coast, followed by the rest of the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific in 2018. The company is accepting pre-orders in more than a dozen countries including the UK, Brazil, India, China, Australia and New Zealand.
