Microsoft is keeping up with its promised updates for Windows 10, and not even a week after the last huge update which delivered many new features Microsoft is at it again. This time it has delivered is being called the Windows 10 Mobile 14327 Insider Preview build.
This new build whilst offering many additional features has one in particular that stands out above the rest called Messaging Everywhere. Considered to still be a work in progress or a preview app, it enables you to send and receive text messages from your Windows mobile phone directly from a Windows 10 based PC.
How to Set up SMS Messaging in Windows 10
Whilst these instructions are relatively simple, please make sure you read them all and follow each step from start to conclusion.
- Make sure you have the latest build of Windows installed on your computer, at the time of writing this that was Windows 10 Build 14316. However, any build after this is fine.
- Check the version of Windows 10 Mobile on your smartphone, you need build 14327 for this to work correctly.
- You now need to be signed into your Microsoft account (MSA) on both your Windows 10 PC and Windows 10 Mobile smartphone.
- Next using you phone, go to settings then messaging app “Messaging Everywhere” and make sure “Send texts on all my Windows devices” is switched on.
- Finally go to your computer and make sure that you have chosen the correct smartphone to send your text messages. This can be done by going into the settings of the messaging app and making sure you have chosen the Windows Phone.
What does this mean for Skype on Windows Mobile?
Some time ago, Skype announced that it was developing a UWP app version of Skype which would go on to be the default messaging app for Windows 10 computers. This would have meant that there would have then been three messaging apps in Windows 10 Mobile, some thought that this made sense, but obviously someone over at Microsoft did not!
Because that’s not what is going to happen, as Microsoft has removed Skype’s integration for the messaging app within this latest version of Windows Mobile 10 build 14327.
