Samsung Galaxy Note 6 May Arrive A Bit Earlier This Year

Updated on

Owing to the success of Samsung’s Galaxy S7 it appears that Samsung is prepared to launch the Galaxy Note 6 a bit earlier than they generally do each year. Walmart has slashed $150 off the Galaxy Note 5 suggesting that Samsung wants them gone prior to the launch of its replacement.

Walmart discounts Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note 6 Soon?

The world’s largest retailer has slashed $150 off the Galaxy Note 5 if purchased through AT&T, Sprint or Verizon with a contract. The offer does not extend to Walmart’s online offerings and subsequently can only be redeemed at a physical retail location. The offer, as it stands, will run through June 30. In addition to cutting the price of the Galaxy 5 Note, Walmart is offering the same $150 discount on the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

But, it’s the discounted Galaxy 5 Note that is making news today as many believe that it signifies an early release of the next generation Samsung phablet, the Galaxy Note 6. While no more rumor and speculation, it does make a fair bit of sense to make shelf-space for what is sure to be a big seller you want a massive-screen smartphone.

If Galaxy S7 sales are any indicator, this could be a huge year for the South Korean company. Samsung has already sold 9 million Galaxy S7 units in just the first month of availability. Samsung has always enjoyed fairly robust sales in the early months of flagship release, but nothing like this. Much of this success is due to the fact that the company has always timed its releases to come ahead of the flagship offerings of HTC, LG, Huawei and others coming out of China.

While Apple is, of course, an American corporation (arguably, with their products generally made elsewhere and a cash horde just sitting around in Europe) it looks like Samsung is also poised to get the Galaxy Note 6 in circulation well ahead of the expected release of the iPhone 7 for what that’s worth. I say that only because Apple enjoys nearly unabashed, often blind loyalty from iPhone users and sees its customers upgrading their phones religiously.

“We expect Samsung to release the Note 6 a month or two before the Apple iPhone 7, to try and grab that window of opportunity,” said Neil Mawston, the executive director at Strategy Analytics recently told Bloomberg. He also noted that the Galaxy S7 will still likely be “the world’s best-selling Android smartphone in 2016.”

Google has pushed its Android N Developer Preview ahead of the Google I/O event this year. Google is apparently ready to release Android N in early July so all speculation pegs the release of the Galaxy Note 6 for a July release with the phablet running Android N OS out-of-the-box.

What to expect from the Galaxy Note 6

I have no idea, but that’s never stopped me from speculating in the past and certainly won’t now.

But if I were to guess based on the consensus rumors….

The Galaxy Note 6 will feature 5.8-inch Quad HD display, a 12-megapixel rear camera, 64GB/128GB of storage and a whopping 6GB of RAM. If that turns out to be the case, Samsung has truly outdone itself.

Unfortunately, I, and I assume many others, have absolutely now use for a phone of this size as I don’t where many suit coats and that think will certainly not fit in the front pocket of a pair of jeans, hell, likely not the back pocket either.

Time will tell, and apparently that time will come in middle July.
