Samsung Galaxy S8 Concept, Release Date, Specs, Features

Updated on

Mobile technology waits for no-man or smartphone that is…. And with that in mind, it is no surprise that only a few weeks after Samsung announced the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge at Mobile World Congress in March we are now starting to see rumors about a Galaxy S8 handset surface across the web.

Even though the S7 and S7 edge have been welcomed by all and received a huge amount of praise for their good looks, modern designs, great cameras and powerful specs once a user has one in their hands it is yesterday’s tech and the rumor mill stands grinding again.

So what are the rumors saying?

Release Date: If you’re a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge owner and you purchased your handset because you want the latest smartphone technology, then probably the last thing you want to hear about is Samsung will soon be usurping your handset with newer tech. I would feel cheated!

The good news on this point is that I’m not seeing anything different here, it looks as though Samsung we’ll see the S8 and maybe an S8 edge variant at next year’s Mobile World Congress.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Design

The S7 and S7 edge both looked a lot like the S6 handsets yes, a few refinements where made such as the rear camera bump being almost gone, but in the majority the handsets look the same.

With the S8 I am hoping for some change in this respect, maybe with the likes of USB Type-C and an improved audio experience by the time the S8 is launched Samsung will have some catching up to do because both LG and HTC have taken onboard audio to a new high with the LGG5 and HTC10.

Display Technology

Whilst the size of the handset is unlikely to be much different from the somewhere between 5.1 and 5.5 inches. Rumors are suggesting that in regard to display resolution some changes could be made.

By the time the S8 hits the market, VR devices will have been around for sometime, which will make the resolution of smartphone displays even more important. With that in mind and Samsung already being involved in the VR business the Galaxy S8 could have a 4K display much the same as the Sony Xperia Z5 premium.

Galaxy S8 Camera

Rumors are suggesting that Samsung is working with a ½.3-inch camera sensor that will be combined with a f/1.4 aperture. This means any camera would be able to deliver superior low-light performance than the current S7 and S7 edge.

Whether that is the case, no one outside Samsung really knows however, other rumors surround the camera on the possible S8 are also doing the rounds. Whatever Samsung is doing, it is certain that it will not be resting on its laurels.

Final Thoughts

Will there actually be a Samsung Galaxy S8? The answer to that question is, who knows? However, what I will say is. Samsung has proven in the past that it knows when it is onto a good thing. If you take the S6 and S7 handsets for example Samsung decided that after the relative struggles with the S5, it needed to change its ways and offer customers more than the small incremental changes it had been doing on each new generation of handset.

And with that in mind whatever number Samsung decides to put on the back of its next smartphone I’m sure (Fingers crossed) it will be a major improvement over the previous.
