Over the last few weeks, there have been rumors that LG Electronics would launch a watered down version of its flagship LG G5 in certain markets. A couple of weeks ago, the handset was spotted passing through the Chinese telecom certification authority TENAA. And now an official LG-made Quick Cover case for the flagship G5 has confirmed that the LG G5 SE is real and will arrive soon.
G5 SE aimed at Latin America, China
The Quick Cover case has reached the British retailer MobileFun. As you can see, the cover is compatible with G5 as well as the G5 SE. It rules out the possibility of G5 SE being a smaller version of LG’s flagship modular smartphone. Both phones will have an almost identical design. Last week, it was reported that LG Electronics had trademarked ‘LG G5 SE’ in mid-February, about a month before Apple’s iPhone SE arrived.
So, what is the difference between LG G5 and G5 SE? An LG executive confirmed to Android Authority that G5 SE will arrive only in certain markets like Latin America and China. It will be powered by Snapdragon 652 rather than Snapdragon 820 SoC. Cristián Correa, LG’s sales manager for Chile, had previously said that the company would launch a modified LG G5 in Latin America. Correa had also said the LG 360 VR headset would not be available in the region.
LG G5 SE to be available soon
Since the official Quick Cover case will soon be available in all markets where G5 has been launched, people would get to know about G5 SE. It indicates that LG might be gearing up to release the SE version soon. Rumors suggest that the LG G5 SE may feature 3GB RAM and a plastic body to cater to the mid-range buyers.
The flagship LG G5 boasts of a 5.3-inch QHD display with always-on display technology that lets you check time, battery status and notifications anytime without pressing a button. It sports a 16MP and an 8MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, LED flash and laser focus. The phone is powered by 4GB RAM and Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. It comes with a 2800mAh battery, and 32GB of built-in storage that can be expanded using a microSD card.
