Following the humongous success of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Samsung is gearing up to launch its Galaxy Note 6 phablet in the second half of the year. The Korean electronics giant is leaving no stone unturned to make the Note 6 as successful as the Galaxy S7. Last year’s Galaxy Note 5 received a lukewarm response from the market. Galaxy Note 6 to be water- and dust-proof
The upcoming smartphone will borrow a few features from the Galaxy S7, including water- and dust-proofing capabilities. Inside sources familiar with the matter told SamMobile that the Note 6 will have an IP68 certification. That means it will be Samsung’s first fully waterproof and dustproof phablet, unlike the Note 5.
MicroSD card set to return
One reason the Galaxy note 4 users didn’t like the Note 5 was the lack of expandable memory. And one reason the Galaxy S7 has recorded robust sales is the return of the microSD card slot. Samsung seems to have learned its lessons, and the company wouldn’t want to disappoint its fans again.
Galaxy Note 6 to boast of Iris scanner
For years, there have been rumors that Samsung would bring Iris scanner to its flagship smartphones and phablets. Now the Korean company appears ready to introduce the technology to Galaxy Note 6. According to Galaxy Club, Samsung imported 200 units of “Iris Cam” to India for R&D activities. Zauba, a website that tracks India’s exports and imports, lists the Iris Cam as “parts for Samsung mobile.”
Camera
The Galaxy Note 5 has a 16-megapixel main camera. But Samsung is rumored to reduce the pixel count to 12-megapixel in Note 6. Samsung is said to use the same “dual-pixel” technology that it used in the Galaxy S7 to boost image quality in low-light conditions. However, a few rumors also point to a 20MP main camera. Either way, the Note 6 camera is likely to be a significant upgrade from that of Galaxy Note 5.
Among other things, the Galaxy note 6 is expected to feature a 5.8-inch QHD display and 6GB RAM. Recent reports suggest that Samsung may launch the Note 6 as early as July or August to sway buyers away from Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7 that is likely to arrive in September.
