Tesla will soon release the Model 3 — the most affordable Tesla ever — which has been creating headlines for a long time. But it will take many years for most people to actually buy a Tesla since they can’t afford to shell out the cash needed to buy either a Model S or Model X right now. However, there is one way they can drive a Tesla, and that option using rentals.
Driving Tesla – not expensive anymore
Rentals could be a good option for many, but even then they are expensive. The reason for this is high demand for Tesla vehicles in the rental car market. As a result, the number of per-day rentals for Tesla vehicles is as high as $400 to $900.
There is no need to be disappointed though since there is one more option that will let people have the privilege of driving a Tesla at a significantly lower price. This comes in the form of peer-to-peer car rental marketplace Turo, which is like an Airbnb for cars, the report says.
When a traveler needs a cheap vehicle, Turo connects him or her with a nearby car owner who is willing to rent out their vehicle for prices lower than what they would be paying at Hertz, Avis or Enterprise.
How does Turo work?
Turo offers two options to car owners. First, they can opt to set their own pricing, and second, they can have Turo set the rates for them using its dynamic pricing system, which uses variables such as seasonality, location and demand for vehicles as the basis for setting automated pricing. Turo claims that by using its services, car owners can make $600 per month through rentals.
Founded in 2009, Turo vehicles are available in more than 2,500 locations across the U.S. The company has a simple business model: the average car remains idle the majority of the time, so car owners can make good use of the opportunity of making money on their investment.
Since Tesla cars are hugely popular, interested customers may have to book their time with Turo users’ cars at least a week in advance. That said, if someone plans to take a trip later or intends to travel around with one of the most in-demand cars in the world, then Turo is the most affordable option.
