Pornhub.com Launches Free, First Virtual Reality Pornsite

Updated on

It was just a matter of time before 360-degree porn got its launch and the world’s largest adult site is launching first. With over 60 million daily viewers and the world’s 65th most visited site, according to Alexa’s traffic estimates, Pornhub is rewarding those moving into the space by offering if for free.

Pornhub partners with BaDoinkVR

Pornhub has not begun offering full films in 360-degrees yet but rather will be streaming BaDoinkVR’s trailers that then link to its growing library and hoping that taste will encourage Pornhub users to sign up for its full-movies offerings.

Pornhub offers about three million clips and well videos of different lengths in many categories. Pornhub, in addition to its 60 million daily visitors has a massive paid membership at more than four million.

“Pornhub is one of the biggest distribution channels in the world,” says BaDoinkVR CEO Todd Glider. “The addition of a VR category, and BaDoinkVR’s award-winning content, will trigger increased consumer uptake and inspire more companies in the space to begin offering virtual reality content. It’s a move that lifts all boats.”

Pornhub was launched in 2007.

Pornhub already offers virtual reality videos for both Android and iOS users. Quite strangely, a new survey from Horizon Media showed that about 65% of American consumers were unaware of the existence of virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift, Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR were on the market and paired with smartphones to provide VR content.

While the New York Times recently gave away one million Google Cardboard devices, Pornhub will go much smaller with 10,000 given to its customers who opt in in time to receive the viewer.

“Porn is already mainstream,” insists Glider. “It’s a persistent topic of conversation in the media. This deal is most important because it broadens mainstream awareness of virtual reality. VR is still nascent tech. Innovators and early adopters have caught the wave, but this deal ushers in the majority of consumers.”

Apparently, the New York Times doesn’t have the reach of the number one visited porn site in the world.

Pornhub speaks of the virtual reality draw

If you remember the early days of the Internet, it seemed that it was simply developed in order for people to rant and rave about movies and share porn. Sure there were other uses but those two purposes really did stand out for many.

But years down the line, porn remains a huge business though a shift from photos to streaming videos has certainly been the focus of the adult entertainment industry. Now, Corey Price, vice president of Pornhub believes that virtual reality will be the next big move.

“Now, our users are not only able to view our content, but be protagonists in the experience and interact with their favorite porn stars,” Price promises.

Travis Jakel, an analyst with Piper Jaffray,  believes that VR content out in the porn industry will reach $1 billion in sales in less than ten years (2025). That number, he believes will only be eclipsed by American football (NFL) and video games

The genius of porn is that pretty much “everyone” watches it so you’re likely to see VR porn viewers using a range of devices from expensive like the Rift to Google’s cheap Cardboard viewer.

Once again porn was on the cutting edge of the Internet’s early years and expects to be their in the infancy of virtual reality content.
