Affordable LG G5 Lite Passes Through China’s TENAA

Updated on

LG Electronics is planning to launch an affordable version of its flagship LG G5 smartphone in certain markets. The ‘Lite’ version of the new device has been spotted (via GSM Arena) at Chinese telecom regulator TENAA. It is unofficially called LG G5 Lite due to its reduced specs. The device that passed through TENAA was called LG H848. This phone has less impressive specs than the standard G5.

It’s a mid-range phone

The biggest difference between the two is in processing power. The flagship G5 comes with a powerful Snapdragon 820 processor. But the Lite variant sports a mid-range Snapdragon 652. This chip consists of four Cortex-A72 and four A53 cores. The Adreno 530, which is one of the most powerful smartphone GPUs, has been replaced by Adreno 510.

LG H848 packs 3GB RAM, down from 4GB in LG G5. The Lite phone looks exactly like the standard G5, but its mid-range specs would allow for a smaller price tag. Before LG unveiled its flagship G5 at the Mobile World Congress, sketchy benchmarks belonging to the Lite version were leaked. It is still unclear when the G5 Lite would hit the Chinese store shelves.

LG G5 Lite supports Friends modules & accessories

Except for RAM, processor, and GPU, the Lite variant is the same as full-fledged G5. It has the same 5.3-inch display with 2560×1440 resolution, 32GB of internal storage, 16-megapixel (wide) and 8MP (narrow) camera setup. Even though its processor is a mid-range one, it supports 4K video shooting. The most important similarity is that the Lite retains the modular design. It is said to support all the modules and “Friends” accessories.

LG G5 will hit the US store shelves on April 1. All the major US carriers have started taking pre-orders for the device. AT&T is luring potential buyers with buy one get one free offer. The Korean electronics company has also unveiled version 5.0 of its mobile user interface based on Android Marshmallow. The UX 5.0 includes an LG Friends Manager app that lets users connect their G5 to its Friends accessories.
