Intel Looking To Sell Its Venture Assets by PitchBook

Intel Capital is reportedly looking to sell off at least part of its VC portfolio, a portion that could be valued at up to $1 billion. The reach that the corporate VC has achieved since its founding in 1991 is vast, as it’s made roughly 1,500 investments. The firm’s portfolio is overwhelmingly made up of IT companies, which account for 77% of the total. Of its investments within that space, 53% have been made in the software sector, 19% in communication & networking startups and 11% in hardware.

The news comes as a bit of a shock because Intel Capital has been the most active corporate venture capital firm by quite a bit, according to PitchBook data. Since the beginning of 2010, the firm has made 394 venture investments, beating out second-place GV by almost 90 deals.

Here are the most active CVC investors since 2010, along with their deal counts:

1. Intel Capital (394)
2. GV (307)
3. Qualcomm Ventures (186)
4. Salesforce Ventures (137)
5. SoftBank Capital (115)
