This iPhone 7 Concept Merges The iPhone And iPad

Updated on

Over the last few months, we have seen numerous iPhone 7 concept images and videos. Each of them imagined the phone from a unique perspective, but none could have even come close to this design from Sonitdac. Even Apple might not have thought of an iPhone 7 with an expandable widescreen display. The designer imagines a crazy version of Apple’s next-gen phone with an expanding display.

The rendering is beautifully put together, with its widescreen display eliminating the need of an iPad. On first look, the device looks pretty normal. It has the same curvy design, though the display panel is slightly more curved around the left and right edges. Once you press the Widescreen button located at the top of the phone, its carbon fiber arms expand out from both sides to offer a large widescreen view.

There are plenty of components and gears on the back of the device, and they are in line with Apple’s closed system aesthetic. Apple has explored wraparound iPhone designs in recently granted patents. Rumors suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant would eventually move to a flexible display. But KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that is unlikely to happen until 2018.

Will Apple merge iPhone with iPad?

Apple may not consider merging the iPhone and iPad at this point. Even if the company were to make such a device, whether customers would be interested in buying it? The iPhone 7 is expected to bring some major design changes. The handset is said to get rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack, the protruding rear camera and antenna bands. It will also be dustproof and waterproof.

The iPhone 7 will reportedly include a dual-camera system to offer DSLR-quality images. LinX, a startup Apple acquired last year, owns the technology needed for a dual-camera setup. Recent rumors suggest that Apple has signed an exclusive deal with Energous to bring long-distance wireless charging to its future iPhones.
