Intel Security Now Guards Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge

Intel Security announced at the Mobile World Congress that Samsung Galaxy S7 users can enjoy its mobile security solution designed to keep them secure from many mobile threats. The new handsets come preinstalled with McAfee VirusScan.

Rising threats to mobile phones

The Samsung-Intel collaboration will help secure Samsung consumers via anti-malware technology that is already helping provide a safer mobile experience to more than 40 million Samsung Galaxy users worldwide.

“Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge users can feel more comfortable in navigating the digital world with enhanced protection by the latest anti-malware solution that Samsung offers,” said Henry Lee, vice president of Mobile Security Technologies of Samsung Mobile.

Mobile malware has been seen as a secondary issue for cyber-crime, with most efforts focused on desktops or laptops. However, there has been an increase in sophisticated and complex new malware for mobile phones over the past several years. Three million devices were affected by malware solely through mobile app stores over the past six months, according to Intel Security’s Mobile Threat Report. Also it was found that in the fourth quarter of 2015, mobile malware samples ramped up 24% in comparison to the third quarter.

“Intel Security is combating these growing mobile threats by collaborating with consumer brands like Samsung to help keep customer’s mobile devices more secure so they can experience the connected world with confidence,” said John Giamatteo, corporate vice president at Intel Security.

Cisco, Ericsson, Intel to develop 5G router

In separate news, Cisco will work with Swedish network gear vendor Ericsson and Intel to develop and test the industry’s first 5G router. The companies expect the next-generation 5G router to allow business and residential customers to achieve significantly faster networking speeds, lower latency, and the ability to manage exponentially more Internet-connected devices.

Cisco said the recent announcement emphasizes how industry collaboration will foster innovation in 5G via end-to-end technology development and trials. This new partnership builds on the next-generation strategic partnership between Ericsson and Cisco to create the networks of the future. Last year, Cisco and Ericsson said they would bring together some sales and consulting efforts and may jointly develop new hardware and services as both are coping with the challenges such as diminution in the smartphone market.
