Twitter Inc May Appoint Apple Inc. Veteran As Communications Head

Updated on

Twitter gets immense interest from media and investors; therefore, it is very important for the company to soon hire someone to run its communications unit. The micro-blogging firm realizes this and is said to be close to hiring Natalie Kerris for the position of Communications Head, says a report from Re/Code. Kerris was a long-time and high-profile Apple communications executive.

Twitter very specific about what it wants

Kerris, who is a well-known name in the Silicon Valley, served Apple as one of its top public relations and communications staffers. She was one of the contenders for the top job at the tech giant after the departure of Katie Cotton, but the job eventually went to Steve Dowling.

Recently, Kerris spent a substantial amount of time talking to top executives at Twitter and is seen as the most suitable person for the job. Kerris won’t be reporting to newly hired CMO Leslie Berland; instead, she will be reporting to General Counsel Vijaya Gadde if she is hired. Kerris would replace Gabriel Stricker, who left Twitter to work on Google’s Fiber efforts. At that time, Twitter was very adamant on the kind of executive it was looking for.

“It continues to be essential that we show the world the value of Twitter. Communications is a key component of that, and to help build toward a stronger future, we are looking now to shift our communications strategy and direction.”

Kerris – a known figure

In her 14-year stint with Apple, Kerris worked on a range of Apple’s most famous products, such as the iPod, iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air and, most recently, ApplePay and the Apple Watch, the report says. She left the company in April.

“She worked alongside the company’s late chief executive, Steve Jobs, whom she invoked in a tweet announcing her departure,” reported Re/code.

Kerris gave indications regarding her retirement that time, but that was not the case. If Twitter hires her, then she will closely work with Berland on the big job of turning around the perception that Twitter has not innovated its products enough and is facing too much executive turmoil. Changing these two perceptions is extremely important for CEO Jack Dorsey; therefore, he needs executives capable of helping him achieve that.
