North Korea Claims It Has Invented Hangover Free Booze

North Korea is not only a hot investment they also have the cure to an age old problem. …..According to local media sources scientists in North Korea have invented a kind of liquor that won’t give you a hangover.

As reported in the Pyongyang Times, the new tipple contains 30-40% alcohol but it won’t leave North Korean drinkers furry-mouthed and bleary-eyed after a late night drinking session. The state newspaper describes the new liquor as “suave,” according to the BBC.

Hangover-free booze is latest fantastical claim from North Korea

Scientists reportedly came up with the brew using insam, a type of indigenous ginseng, and organically-produced glutinous rice. As North Korea struggles to revive its ailing economy and improve crippling levels of poverty, you may have thought that the hermit kingdom would be using its scant resources for something other than improving the lives of drinkers.

However the North Korean media has gained a reputation for making bold and unrealistic claims about Pyongyang‘s achievements, and this could be another instance. In 2015 local media claimed that insam could be used to produce medicines that cure Mers, Sars and even Aids.

According to the Pyongyang Times the new alcohol not only “exudes national flavor,” it won’t leave your national fervor impaired the following morning. The report goes on to claim that the spirit “is highly appreciated by experts and lovers.”

Indigenous insam herb used in groundbreaking liquor

The idea of an end to hangovers sounds fantastic, and the news was broken under the amazing title “Liquor wins quality medal for preserving national smack.” The report later tells the reader how the Taedonggang Foodstuff Factory has spent years developing the groundbreaking brew.

The Kaesong Koryo insam plant is thought to have medicinal properties, and the Pyongyang Times says that replacing sugar with the scorched, glutinous rice allowed scientists to reduce the bitter taste of the insam and end hangovers.

“Koryo Liquor, which is made of six-year-old Kaesong Koryo insam, known as being highest in medicinal effect, and the scorched rice, is highly appreciated by experts and lovers as it is suave and causes no hangover,” the article reads.

The liquor “has already been registered as a national scientific and technological hit,” it adds.

Andray Abrahamian, a regular business visitor to North Korea, said that the insam liquors were “OK” but he is “not that keen on it as a tasty treat.”

“There are some high quality liquors made in North Korea, though in my experience there is no such thing as hangover-free booze anywhere in the world,” he said.
