Google might throw a lifeline to HTC, which is in bad shape currently. Weibo has a new rumor claiming that Google plans to get HTC to produce not just one but two new Nexus devices this year. No specs have been revealed, but the rumor says that one device will have a 5-inch display while the other will come with a 5.5-inch display.
Will the Nexus end HTC’s struggle?
It won’t be wrong to assume that both new Google Nexus devices will run on the next version of Android that will be unveiled at Google I/O this year. The Internet firm will most likely insist on having a camera with a quality that matches that of the Nexus 6P. It was the best camera seen in a Nexus phone so far.
HTC has released some very disappointing devices, such as the HTC One M9 and the One A9 (its rip-off of the iPhone 6), which have pushed some Android fans away from the brand. And it is assumed that a new pair of Nexus phones will help the brand in its rehabilitation. However, the analyst who is the source of this rumor believes the two Nexus phones will offer little help to HTC in escaping from all of its problems.
Will Google produce Nexus this time?
In 2014, HTC released the Nexus 9 tablet, which was not as successful as it had hoped. HTC is known for making some amazing smartphones, but its software is always covered in the Sense UI, just like Samsung’s TouchWiz, which many users dislike.
HTC’s hardware is still fantastic, and Google is expected to take care of the specifications and software this time. As per the rumor, Huawei too was competing for the contract to produce this year’s Nexus, but HTC turned out to be the winner in the end.
All these are mere rumors for the time being and should be taken with a grain of salt. But users who loved the HTC One M7 and M8 devices will definitely be waiting eagerly to see what the new Nexus phones have to offer. However, there can also be the case that Google will make its own device as it did with the Pixel C tablet, which was released earlier this year.
