BlackBerry Ltd Uses Good To Sharpen Its Focus On EMM

Updated on

BlackBerry recently acquired Good Technology and now has taken the first step towards integrating its technology. The Canadian firm unveiled a set of five mobile security, management, productivity and collaboration packages.

How Good Secure EMM Suites helps

Good Secure’s Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) suites offer several useful services such as identity and access management, containerization and enterprise file sync and share with file-level data protection, said BlackBerry. It also secures access to data and applications behind a firewall or in the cloud for multiple devices.

BlackBerry is particularly interested in Good’s secure applications and containerization technology. Good also has experience in supporting iPhones since iOS devices account for 64% of its activations, followed by Android and Windows. The Canadian firm is also making efforts to build its Android credentials, for which it is working with Samsung on its Knox security software.

The Good Secure Management suites are available at a starting price of $3 per user per month. The starting price of the Good Secure Enterprise suite is $5; Good Secure Collaboration Suite is $10, the Good Secure Mobility Suite is available for $15 and the Good Secure Content Suite will cost $25 per user per month.

In November, BlackBerry completed the acquisition of Good Technology for $425 million. At that time, it said the deal would contribute $160 million worth of revenue in the first year. The Canadian firm informed users that the software can be deployed in two ways: on-premise and a cloud-based model.

BlackBerry expects more growth from EMM

BlackBerry is making sincere efforts to reinvent itself, and the acquisition of Good is a key step towards achieving that goal. The company has always been known for making secure phones running on its own operating system, and now it is trying to transform into a platform that makes management and security software for multiple mobile operating systems.

Quoting figures from research firm Strategy Analytics, the Canadian firm said the combined market share of the two companies – BlackBerry and Good – in EMM stands at 25%. Though the company continues to make smartphones such as the Priv, it expects mobile management software to contribute more to its growth than the handset business.

On Tuesday, BlackBerry shares closed up 2.93% at $7.02. Year to date, the stock is down by over 24%, while in the last year, it is down by over 34%.
