Poll: Do You Think Donald Trump Should Be Banned In UK?

Updated on

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is not afraid of criticism, and he’s also willing to actually say in public what some of the most extreme conservatives in America are thinking. Even by Trump’s standard’s, however, his recent incendiary statements about banning Muslims from traveling to the United States have sparked a firestorm of criticism both in the U.S. and abroad.

Of interest, Trump is currently the runaway leader of the U.S. Republican presidential primary, and the most recent polls after his call for a ban on Muslims traveling don’t show that the controversy has had much impact on his popularity among Republican voters.

Reaction to Donald Trump’s Muslim ban plan in the U.S.

The reaction to Trump’s statement in the U.S. has been a mixed bag, with some support from ultra-conservative organizations, but virtually all well-known Republicans including all of the major presidential candidates have distanced themselves from Trump’s comments.

“All the talk, including the newscasts, are dominated by this [Trump Muslim ban] plan that’s never going to happen,” Senator and presidential candidate Marco Rubio told ABC News in an interview on Thursday morning.

Of note, Republican Representative Keith Ellison is also circulated a petition asking GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump to try to tone down his negative rhetoric against Muslims, and the petition has received almost 10,000 signatures to date.

Fierce criticism of Trump in the UK as “racist” and “isolationist”

There has been fierce criticism of Donald Trump and his anti-Muslim attitudes all across the globe, but especially in the UK, which has a substantial Muslim population.

In fact, over 400,000 people have already signed a petition demanding that Trump be banned from Britain.

In a recent development, Trump has been stripped of of his title as Scottish business ambassador role and his honorary degree

His response was: “I have done so much for Scotland. They should have informed me prior to my £200m investment” (referring to his stake in a Scottish golf course).

Many Muslims in Britain and throughout the UK reacted angrily to Trump’s comments, with some calling the billionaire “another Hitler”.

In response to the harsh words, Trump says the UK MPs criticizing him “should be thanking me” for highlighting Muslim problem.

He tweeted: ‘The UK is trying hard to disguise their massive Muslim problem. Everybody is wise to what is happening, very sad! Be honest’

Trump supporters say that the whole Muslin ban situation has been blown out of proportion, and all that Trump really wants is to exercise “common sense” in protecting American lives. In answering questions by the media about his call to ban Muslims from traveling to the United States, Donald Trump replied that he loves the Middle East and the people there.

Comments from Anti-Defamation League

Jonathan Greenblatt, leader of the U.S.-based Anti-Defamation League, noted that more than 20% of Israel’s population is Muslim, and American Jews “know all too well what can happen when a particular religious group is singled out for stereotyping and scapegoating”.

“I will still go to the States as I have children studying and working there, he continued. “We as Muslims have to stand up to those who use Islam to advance their own personal agenda.”
