Netflix Marvel Partnership Seems To Be On Hold [REPORT]

Updated on

Netflix and Marvel initially announced they planned to work together on producing several mini-series based on comic books a couple of years ago While many had positive expectations from the partnership, others were cautious and suggested there could be problems with this difficult partnership.

Suspense continues on Iron Fist

The first series produced in partnership, Daredevil, was huge success. This helped reduce nervousness, but the success of just one series does not indicate that all is going well behind closed doors. The comic book news site ‘PeelTheOrange’ has recently uncovered some major news concerning the future of the Marvel line-up on Netflix.

The publication found out from a source that Marvel is not able to figure out how it should insert Iron Fist into the New York City that it has been building around Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Since time is running out fast, the studio could possibly scrap Iron Fist and replace it with The Punisher, the publication said.

The sources note that The Punisher is a more marketable character as he has already starred in several movies in the last few years. Moreover, Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of the character in Daredevil season 2 greatly impressed studio executives, thus making it further difficult for Iron Fist to get a nod considering it has not been cast yet.

One week after the initial report, another source within Marvel told ‘PeelTheOrange’ that “the studio will be turning Iron Fist into a Netflix exclusive feature film” and that “The Punisher will replace Iron Fist as one of the four Defenders.” Nothing is confirmed for now, so the fans will have to wait and hope for the best.

Netflix to feature a YouTube hit

Separately, Netflix has made its first pick from the video-sharing website YouTube. A new show named Gringolandia debuted on YouTube in 2013 with six-minute-long episodes. Later they were consolidated into two longer episodes to be telecast on Netflix.

It is a comedy about a South American immigrant who opens up a Chilean-style hotdog stand in New York. Based on his experiences living in the U.S., the 33-year-old Chilean Cristobal Ross created a story about the bemused Peter (Koke Santa Ana), who introduces Americans not only to the Chilean slang, but also to a popular snack named ‘completo’ – a hotdog drowned in mayonnaise, avocado and tomato.
