Here’s The List Of Most Dangerous Countries For Tourists [Map]

Updated on

Planning to travel abroad? The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has released a list of 18 dangerous countries that travelers should avoid. The list also includes 45 countries that are “partially dangerous” for British travelers, mainly due to unrest in certain regions. Using that list, Statista created a map showing “high risk” countries in red and partially dangerous countries in orange.

Those in Syria should leave ‘by any practical means

The FCO’s move came after a Russian plane crashed in Egypt after taking off from tourist destination Sharm El-Sheikh. All 224 passengers and crew members died in the crash. Intelligence inputs suggest that ISIS or its affiliates planted a bomb on the aircraft. Hundreds of British travelers are still stranded in Egypt as the FCO had advised “all but essential travel by air to or from Sharm El-Sheikh.” Flights to the resort town are unlikely to resume until Thursday, Nov.26.

The threat of terrorism also contributed to some rankings. British nationals in Syria should leave the war-torn country now “by any practical means” because the FCO won’t be able to provide any consular service. The situation in Syria remains “extremely volatile and dangerous.” Middle-East and African countries dominate the list, along with some Central American and Asian countries.

The list of “high risk” countries includes Syria, Yemen, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Congo, Libya, Burundi, Chad, Central African Republic, Guinea, Somaliland, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Niger, Mauritania, and the Palestinian territories.

Japan among partially dangerous countries

Then there are 45 countries that are partially dangerous. Surprisingly, Japan has been included in this list. Parts of Russia, including areas of Chechnya and regions near the border with Ukraine, are also deemed dangerous. Here’s the full list of 45 “partially dangerous” countries.
