When Mario Gabelli began his career as a research analyst, the typical way to value a company was to look at its current share price. Mario, however, came up with his own method. To determine the value of a company, he calculated what it would be worth if it went from public to private. The methodology, Private Market Value (PMV) with a Catalyst, is now one of Mario’s many legacies on Wall Street.
